The 2008 Nationals were a great success. With 5 states competing accross the carnival, some great netball was to be seen. It was exciting to see Queensland re-enter the event for the first time in 6 years, and the inclusion of a regional Victorian team was a first for the event. At the presentation dinner it was announced that next years carnival will be held in Queensland, with the dates and location to be confirmed. With 21 teams competing this year, it is our aim to have at least 30 teams at next years event.
The venue for the 2009 Championships has been finalised. These will be held at the fully airconditioned Coloundra Indoor Stadium at Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, 45 minutes North of Brisbane airport. The event will be held from Saturday 11 April until Saturday 18 April 2009.

AUSTRALIAN mens netball will explore a new frontier next year with the first ever mens and mixed tour of the Caribbean.
A 45-strong Australian contingent will contest a series of international matches in Jamaica in October and November, 2009.
Australia will send a squad including an open mens team, an open mixed team and an under-23 mens side.
All players will be selected entirely from the Australian Mens and Mixed Netball Championships, to be held on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast over Easter.
All Australian Mens and Mixed Netball Association spokesman James McCallum encouraged elite and emerging male and female netball talent to trial for their state.
“Our state teams include some of Australia’s best players and are regularly called upon by the Australian women’s team and the Silver Ferns for practice matches,’’ McCallum said.
“Competing with the men is one of the best ways for young men and women to rapidly develop and improve their game and take their netball to another level,” he said.
Umpires are also invited to apply to officiate at the national championships and vie for international selection.
“It’s an unbelievably good way for young umpires to fast track their development,” McCallum said. |
