THE 2010 Australian Mens' and Mixed Netball
Championships have been moved from the State Netball Hockey Centre
in Parkville to the Oakleigh Recreation Centre in Melbourne's
south.
Prohibitive pricing at the State Netball Hockey Centre is behind
the venue shift, with quotes to stage the event there tens of
thousands of dollars in excess of the cost for any previous
national championships.
Victorian Mens' and Mixed Netball League president James
McCallum said while the news was disappointing, the event still
promised to be a success.
"We still have more than 30 teams coming to our tournament and
our management team will present a wonderful event," McCallum
said.
"In terms of showcasing our sport at a high quality venue, the
Oakleigh Recreation Centre has been incredibly professional,
helpful and responsive to our needs."
The Oakleigh Recreation Centre and Aquatic Centre features a
four-court stadium and isurrrently undergoing extensive upgrades,
which include:
- The construction of a 50m heated outdoor pool
- New heated outdoor relaxation pool and spa
- New changerooms
- Modern cafe with indoor and outdoor seating
- Upgrades to the reception and entrance area
The Australian Men's and Mixed Netball Championships will be
held at the Oakleigh Recreation Centre, Park Rd,
Oakleigh, over the Easter week, 2010.
